Unbox and Inspect
Before you stick anything to the wall, lay everything out. A standard Daybetter package includes:
- LED strip (coiled on a spool)
- Inline controller box with receiver
- Power adapter (usually 12V DC)
- IR remote (28-key or 44-key depending on model)
- Quickstart card
Check the strip for any dark or missing LED sections. Run a quick power-on test before you peel the adhesive backing: plug in, press the power button on the remote, and confirm the strip lights up end-to-end. If any section is dead, Amazon's return window is your friend.
Download the Daybetter App
Search "Daybetter" in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). The official app has a blue icon with a strip-light graphic. Download is free.
Note on older models:
Some Daybetter LED kits sold before mid-2023 used the "HappyLighting" app. Check the side of your box: if it shows a QR code pointing to HappyLighting, use that instead. The setup process is identical.
Create a free account (email + password). You'll need this account later to link Alexa or Google Home. Skip account creation if you plan to use Bluetooth-only mode.
Plan Your Layout and Measure
Walk the perimeter of the room or the specific surface you're covering. A few planning tips that save headaches later:
- Start near the power outlet – the controller box is where the power adapter plugs in. Locate the outlet first, then plan the strip route from there.
- Mark cut points in advance – Daybetter strips can only be cut at the scissor icons (every 3 LEDs, roughly every 2 inches). Mark with painter's tape before you unroll.
- Corners – for 90-degree turns, use optional corner connectors (sold separately on Amazon) or bend the strip gradually. Do not fold sharply – that breaks the copper trace.
- 100ft note – if you're installing the full 100ft, this typically covers a 14x14ft room perimeter twice over, or a 12x12ft room with ceiling accent + desk strip remaining.
If you do need to cut: use sharp scissors, cut only on the marked lines, and seal the raw end with electrical tape. The cut-off piece is not reusable unless you use a compatible extension connector.
Peel and Stick the Strip
The 3M adhesive on Daybetter strips is strong, but proper surface prep makes the difference between "still holding after 6 months" and "fell on my TV at 2am."
- Wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol (70%+) and a microfiber cloth. Let dry completely.
- On painted drywall, press extra hard for the first few feet – paint microsurfaces are less grippy than wood or metal.
- Start from the controller box end. Peel only 6 inches of backing at a time as you go.
- Press firmly for 5-10 seconds per section, especially at corners.
Pro tip from customer reports: Several buyers noted the adhesive performs better in temperatures above 60°F. If your room is cold (below 55°F), use a heat gun or hairdryer on the strip for 10 seconds before pressing – the adhesive becomes more pliable.
Connect Power and Pair via the App
This is where most people hit a wall. The #1 issue: Daybetter Smart LED strips require 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5GHz. Modern routers broadcast both; if yours does, temporarily set your phone to the 2.4GHz band during pairing.
WiFi Pairing (step-by-step)
- Plug in the LED controller. You'll see the LED strip flash rapidly – this is pairing mode.
- Open the Daybetter app. Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner.
- Select your device type from the list. For the 100ft Smart (B08JSQVBDQ), choose "LED Strip Lights – WiFi".
- Confirm the strip is flashing. The app will ask you to hold a button on the controller for 5 seconds until it flashes rapidly – do this to reset pairing mode if the strip is solid-color.
- Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi SSID and password. Tap "Confirm."
- Wait 30-60 seconds. The app will show a success screen with your device name.
Bluetooth Pairing (fallback)
If WiFi fails or you have 5GHz-only, use Bluetooth mode:
- In the app, select "Add Device" → "Bluetooth."
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone and ensure location permission is granted (required for BLE scanning on Android).
- The controller should appear as "Daybetter-XXXX" in the scan list. Tap to pair.
- Bluetooth range is about 30 feet. You'll need to be in the same room for control.

Voice command examples: "Alexa, set LED lights to 50%" / "Hey Google, turn LED lights red" / "Alexa, turn on LED lights in 30 minutes." Routines and schedules work through the respective voice assistant apps.
Troubleshooting: Most Common Issues
Strip won't connect to WiFi
99% of the time this is the 2.4GHz vs 5GHz issue. Temporarily create a mobile hotspot set to 2.4GHz from your phone, pair the strip to that, then switch it to your home WiFi after. Alternative: log into your router admin and turn off 5GHz temporarily during pairing.
App says "Device offline" after setup
Power-cycle the controller (unplug 10s, replug). Check your router hasn't changed the 2.4GHz channel. If the router rebooted recently, the LED controller may need to re-acquire an IP. Usually resolves in 60 seconds after a power cycle.
Colors look wrong or one color missing
Check all connections between strip and controller. A loose connector causes one color channel to drop out. Reseat the connection firmly. If a specific section of strip only lights one color, that section may have a bad IC chip – contact Daybetter support for warranty replacement.
Strip falls off wall
Most reported on textured/rough surfaces or in rooms above 85°F. Fix: use double-sided mounting clips (available on Amazon for ~$6 per 50-pack) spaced every 12 inches. These clip over the strip and screw into the wall – zero adhesive failure possible.
Alexa "Device not responding"
This usually means the strip lost WiFi. Open the Daybetter app to confirm the device is online there first. If the strip works in the app but not via Alexa, disable and re-enable the Daybetter Alexa skill, then re-discover devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which app do I use for Daybetter LED lights?
Download the "Daybetter" app from the App Store or Google Play. It's free. Some older models (pre-2023) use "HappyLighting" – check your product box for the correct app name and QR code.
Why won't my Daybetter LED connect to WiFi?
Daybetter Smart LED lights only support 2.4GHz WiFi – not 5GHz. If you have a dual-band router, switch your phone to the 2.4GHz network before pairing, or temporarily disable 5GHz in your router settings.
Can I use Daybetter LED lights without WiFi?
Yes. All Daybetter Smart models support Bluetooth control through the app. The included IR remote works completely offline with no app or internet required.
How do I connect Daybetter lights to Alexa?
In the Alexa app, go to Skills & Games, search "Daybetter," enable the skill, sign in with your Daybetter account, and say "Alexa, discover devices." Your lights appear as a smart bulb/switch device.
What if my Daybetter app says "device offline"?
Power-cycle the controller (unplug 10 seconds, replug). If that doesn't work, delete the device in the app and re-add it from scratch. Most offline issues are caused by the controller losing DHCP lease after a router restart.
